Mindfulness Through Art: Caduceus, A Symbol of Restoration and Peace
This virtual class explores the theme of diplomatic communication as the caduceus represents the legend where Roman God, Mercury, (in Greek, named Hermes) stopped two fighting serpents with his rod to bring peace.
It was there that the rod became a sign of peace.
This symbol in Latin is adapted from Greek kerukeion, “herald’s wand"/staff,” is most often times liked to Hermes, the messenger or ambassador of the Gods.
But the symbol itself pre-dates Hermes…dating back to 4000 BC-3000BC.
Legend has it, the caduceus could wake the sleeping while soothing to sleep those who were awake…creating a more graceful transition to the dying and bringing the dying back to life.
We’ll be using this symbol to contemplate how to soothe parts of us that need to be brought down to a simmer and awaken the passions within us that need to be brought to life.
This is a two-part class of meditation, painting instruction, and journal exercises happening Thursdays March 18th and 25th, 7pm-9:15pm Pacific Time.
Supply list and Zoom link will be emailed to all registrants.
